Customer Review: So many bags ... so little time

I have been looking for a smaller bag to replace my Domke when I go for an extended treck or a walk on the ranch. I tried the Canon Zoom Pack 1000 which is very compact, but barely fits my 50D with it's 24-105L IS
lens without the lens hood. The price is right on the Canon bag but with the 24-105 I have to very carefully fold up the strap to get the whole camera inside.
The 519 is excellent quality and you can add all kinds accessory holders to the system including a water bottle. My 50D with its 24-105 fits nicely with the little pad that comes with the bag folded in the bottom. Nice extra protection for the L series. There is room for the lens hood and you still have room in the top to easily drop in the strap without much care. When I first received it I thought it was too large and bulky. It looked as big as my Domke F3x. I almost returned it but thought I would take the rubber band off the strap and try it. The strap is very long and fully adjustable. It allows you to sling the 519 around to your back for protection in tight spots. The strap is fairly narrow but very flexible and has a non slip pad.
The 519 has a nice pocket on the front with two battery or CF holders that have a red flap for used or non-used designation on each. There is also a large zip pocket on the top flap in the inside. Overall, I am very pleased with this product and plan to add a iPod (iPhone) holder and water bottle to my system. I also think my 50D is better supported and definitely better padded in the 519 than my Domke. The bottom line is that it feels smaller (even though it isn't much smaller).

The Pro Zoom Pack is specifically designed to hold large pro SLRs like Canon's 1D Series and Nikon's D Series. With the zoom lens pointing down, this pack holds a pro SLR with a lens up to 8-inch long attached. Alternatively, an internal, padded divider can be used to protect and carry two smaller lenses or accessories. Inside the fast-access zippered top is a pocket for filters, memory cards, lens caps or cleaning materials. A large outer pocket will hold a flash or accessories.
